How to Make Shakshuka in 10 minutes

Shakshuka consists of poached eggs in a spicy tomato sauce, a delicious Middle Eastern dish. Easy to make, a one-pan dish perfect for breakfast with bread.

Ingredients

  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 2 garlic cloves thinly sliced
  • 1 tbsp chili paste or tomato sauce
  • 1 onion sliced
  • 1 chili chopped
  • 1 bell pepper chopped
  • Salt & pepper to taste
  • 200 g tomatoes peeled & crushed
  • 200 g canned tomatoes
  • 120 ml water
  • 4 eggs

Instructions

Make the Sauce

  • Heat the oil in a pan over medium heat.
  • Add garlic and stir until fragrant.
  • Add chili paste and mix well.
  • Add onion, bell pepper, chili, and stir-fry briefly.
  • Add salt and pepper and mix well.
  • Add tomato and stir-fry until all the ingredients are well coated.
  • Add water and cook for about 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  • Now your sauce is ready.

Cook the eggs

  • Crack an egg into a small bowl or you can also crack eggs directly into the mixture.
  • Make little pockets in the sauce and then gently slip the egg into the tomato sauce. Repeat with the remaining eggs.
  • Cover and cook the eggs until the whites are firm and the yolks have thickened but are not hard for about 5 minutes.
  • Serve with bread & enjoy.
